A beautiful breakfast idea came about because a few of us kept running into some new parishioners (here for year or less) who had not been able to “connect” to the community beyond being present at the mass. We reflected on our own experiences coming to Whitehorse within the last decade. It wasn’t easy at first to meet a catholic community within our parish. Many of us felt that some of the more intimate gatherings; CWL, book studies, Knights, retreats, or house gatherings may be initially intimidating especially for families where some may not be Catholics or have the added help of children to break the ice. We were inspired by the visiting speaker for the Vanier faith development talk who mentioned that in his small community they do a “beautiful breakfast”. We wanted to take this idea and make it a chance to make all parts of it beautiful - done with love and intention and special attention to all things lovely: good food options, beautiful decor and artistic touches where possible. Everything is meant to tell people that we are so glad that they are a part of our faith community, and we want to get to know each other slowly but surely. Over time, if offered on a monthly basis, this may become an opportunity for small groups to form for faith study, rosary, service, etc.
